BigApps: Advice from Previous Winner Ben Sann

We’re one week away from the deadline for NYC BigApps 3.0! To inspire this year’s competitors, we checked in with previous BigApps winners. Read on for thoughts from Ben Sann, founder and CEO of BestParking.com, whose Parking Finder app took Third Prize and the Investor’s Choice Award last year. BestParking takes the hassle out of finding parking in Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn by providing an interactive map of free, metered, and prohibited on-street parking for your precise stay, as well as the entrance location and calculated price of every off-street parking garage and lot.

What were the most important aspects of winning BigApps for you?
Recognition of BestParking.com’s efforts to improve the accessibility of parking information.

How has your app, company, or career evolved since winning BigApps?
We’ve expanded to additional cities and formed strong partnerships.

What are your future goals for your app, company, or self?
To provide high-quality parking information to motorists throughout North America.

Excluding your own, what’s your favorite BigApps app?

On Saturday, January 7th at Pivotal Labs, NYC BigApps 3.0 Developer Day hosted about 85 developers, designers, and strategists making the final heroic push towards completing their apps. Fortified by delicious food, inspiring company, and troubleshooting NYC DoITT and API partners, attendees powered through the day. They finessed code, tweaked designs, gained new teammates, and received answers to tough questions.

Check out photos above. Remember, NYC BigApps submissions are due by January 25th, 5 PM EST. Good luck!
