We tapped into our inner classical pianist to create this behind-the-scenes video of the Steinway factory. They’ve been making pianos in New York City since the 1870s. Find out how Steinway made it here in NYC, with the help of New York City Industrial Development Agency.

Watch how Mondial Automotive made it here in New York City.

Here’s a real City immigrant entrepreneur success story: Showky Kaldawy Sr. came here from Lebanon with $21 in his pocket. He started an auto-repair business in Queens, which his son, Showky Kaldawy Jr., took over as president. When they needed to expand, they got help from NYCEDC and NYCIDA, stayed in Queens and grew their business.

New York City. Make It Here.

Foreign journalists from Australia, China, France, Israel, and Japan gathered at Varick Street Incubator yesterday for the kick-off screening of two video profiles of NYC startup companies that have graduated from our network of City-sponsored incubators and since expanded to their own office space here in New York City. Micah Kotch of NYU-Poly also provided a tour of the incubator (photos) where attendees interacted with startup companies currently working there, and NYCEDC President Seth Pinsky presented on how New York City is working to spur entrepreneurship across all industries in the City.

The videos we screened are from our new series, “NEW YORK CITY. MAKE IT HERE.,” which features different business enterprises and owners in the City telling their own success stories, including how NYCEDC helped them “make it” in NYC through programs and resources.

The first video (top) is from EcoLogic founder Anselm Doering. It tells the story of how he founded and took EcoLogic Solutions from his apartment to the Varick Street Incubator, and then to the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a thriving business. EcoLogic’s mission is to bring the safest, most effective and cost-competitive cleaning products and solutions to institutions.

The second video (below) is from Pixable CEO Inaki Berenguer, and tells the story of how he—an immigrant entrepreneur from Spain— started his tech startup at MIT, moved into the City’s first incubator at 160 Varick Street, and became the first company from the incubator to graduate and expand to its own office space in NYC. Click below to play:

New York City: Make It Here
featuring Pixable CEO Inaki Berenguer

From MIT to SoHo, Pixable is a New York City tech startup that enables users to manage their online photos with a powerful set of features centered around photo search, aggregation, editing, and photo-product creation. Pixable was founded in the summer of 2008 by three MIT graduate students with backgrounds in engineering, business, and computer science. Pixable was the first tenant to graduate from NYU-Poly and NYCEDC’s 160 Varick Street Incubator and recently received $3.6 million in a new round of funding.

Watch Pixable CEO Inaki Berenguer as he explains how Pixable “made it” in NYC.

This video is the first in our new series, ”I Made It Here,” featuring New York City startup success stories.
