Chashama Open Studios at Brooklyn Army Terminal
This weekend (Sept 8-9), chashama and NYCEDC are participating in Brooklyn Museum’s GO! Brooklyn Open Studios. Visitors can explore 96 artist studios spread across two buildings at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Easily accessible by N/R train (to 59th St.), guests can tour the studios, interact with artists and learn more about chashama and their programs from 11am – 7pm both Saturday and Sunday, with special artist’s receptions from 5 – 7 pm. Free and open to the public!
Over 65 chashama artists are registered for GO! and eligible for inclusion in a group exhibition during Target First Saturdays, December 1 at the Brooklyn Museum. Register to vote at www.gobrooklynart.org.
chashama has had a presence at the Brooklyn Army Terminal since 2005, and expanded from 20,000 to 60,000 square feet in 2009 with help from NYCEDC. According to Anita Durst, Artistic Director of chashama, “chashama and NYCEDC have fostered the growth of hundreds of local artists economically and artistically at the Brooklyn Army Terminal Studios.” chashama plans to continue fostering communities of underserved, emerging and established artists in Sunset Park and beyond for years to come.

“Chashama plays an integral role in our growing network of City-sponsored incubators, providing both emerging and established artists with affordable workspace that will allow them to thrive within the City’s strong artistic community.”
