Roosevelt Island
New York City’s answer to Stanford and Silicon Valley. Roosevelt Island is the site of a new $2 billion applied-sciences university to be built over the next 25 years by Cornell University and Israel’s Technion University. Cornell alumnus Charles F. Feeney, of Atlantic Philanthropies and the Duty Free Shoppers Group, is helping to bankroll the new school with a $350 million gift, the largest in the university’s history. The brainchild of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his tech boosters at the New York City Economic Development Corp., the campus could be the mayor’s chief legacy to the city.
