“Like Google, with its $2 billion Chelsea building, some of the most important tech companies have been looking east. Twitter opened major offices on Madison Avenue last year, and eBay announced in May that it’s moving some of its units to the Flatiron neighborhood. ‘They want to be in a big city,’ where, culturally, intellectually, financially, there are ‘more of the best and the brightest,’ says Bloomberg. ‘If intellectual capital is what you need, New York City is where you want to be.’” —Roosevelt Island: New York’s New Tech Hub (Newsweek Magazine)

Today in Betabeat’s Startup News:

Yesterday, the New York City Economic Development Corporation announced the first-ever NYC Best Business for Infographics Competition. New Yorkers are challenged to “demonstrate why NYC is the premier global destination for businesses,” using by designing a visually stimulating infographic. The contest is open now until September 21, when the judging period will begin. Three semi-finalists will be selected, and a public voting period will begin in October. The winners will receive $1000, as well as a full-size print of their infographic, signed by Mayor Bloomberg. Well, what are you waiting for?
